TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS

 Dimensions of the playing court:

Volleyball court size 60ft x 30ft
EACH TEAM WILL BE GUARANTEED THREE (3) TWELVE (12) MINUTE GAMES.

The Ball (Regular outdoor Soccer Ball provided by the tournament director)

U16 and under – size 5
U18, Adult open – size 4
Coed and men’s over 35 – size 5

Service:

A service is executed by kicking the ball from behind the base line. Players can serve by picking the ball up with their hands and then kicking the ball off the volley or off the bounce. For an extra challenge, players can leave the ball on the ground and “chip” the ball over the bar for the service.
The ball shall cross the bar and land on the opponent’s zone. The opposing players shall not touch the ball until it has touched their own half of the playing court.

Touches:

3 vs. 3 – Each team is allowed 3 touches and 1 bounce per return. Once a player touches the ball, the ball may not bounce again on his/her zone. The player does not have to let the ball touch the ground (except for the opponent’s service). The player is not allowed to touch the ball twice in succession.

Scoring/ game duration/ tie-break and points:

Scoring:
We use the "rally scoring" system. This means that a point is awarded on every service to the player/team that wins the rally. A team wins a point if the opponent commits a fault. Examples of faults include:

  • The player (team) has too many touches and/or bounces before getting the ball over the bar.
  • A player touches the ball with hand or arm.
  • The ball land outside the opponent’s playing court (lines are in).
  • The ball hits the ceiling.

Game duration:

  • Twelve minute games (running clock)

Points:

  • 3 points for a win
  • 0 points for a lost
  • 1 point for a tied

Tie-break:

  • Head to Head
  • Most wins
  • Fewest points allowed
  • Most shutouts
  • Mini game (7 points)

Abusive Behavior:

While at the fields, any coach, parent, team official, player or spectator threatening violence or verbal abuse to any individual will immediately be ejected from the tournament and the team may be ejected from the tournament. This type of behavior is not acceptable at this event and will not be tolerated.
